Match Report
Argentina cruised to a 2-1 friendly win over Mauritania at La Bombonera on Friday night, though a late consolation took some shine off a dominant first-half display.
Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finishing off a sharp Nahuel Molina cross, before Nico Paz doubled the lead with a curling free kick in the 32nd. The hosts were in complete control at the break.
Lionel Messi entered as a second-half substitute but couldn't add to the scoresheet, with Argentina failing to register a single shot on target after the interval. Jordan Lefort capitalised on a goalmouth scramble deep into stoppage time to pull one back for Mauritania.
A comfortable enough outing for the hosts ahead of a home World Cup, though the second-half dip will give coach Lionel Scaloni something to think about.
