Match Report
Fluminense sealed their Copa Libertadores Round of 16 berth with a comfortable 3-1 home win over Deportivo La Guaira at the Maracanã. The Brazilians were largely in control, despite a brief wobble in the opening quarter-hour.
A handball by Cesar Da Silva handed Fluminense an early penalty, coolly converted by Jefferson Savarino in the 9th minute. La Guaira leveled almost immediately through a deflected Flabián Londoño effort in the 11th, giving the visitors a fleeting foothold in the contest. Hércules restored the hosts' advantage in the 27th, finishing off a neat assist from Martinelli, before Agustín Canobbio put the game to bed in the 65th by pouncing on a rebound inside the box.
Fluminense's qualification was confirmed with help from Bolivia, where Rivadavia beat Bolívar 2-1 in a concurrent fixture. For La Guaira, it's a hard exit — they showed early spirit but couldn't sustain their challenge against a Tricolor side that was simply a level above on the night.
