Match Report
Rosario Central kept their unbeaten Copa Libertadores run going with a 1-0 home victory over Libertad at the Gigante de Arroyito — though the night will be remembered as much for the penalty that wasn't as for the goal that was.
The drama came just before the break when VAR awarded a spot-kick to the hosts after a foul on Alexis Véliz. Ángel Di María stepped up, only for the Libertad goalkeeper to produce a sharp save and keep it level at half-time. Central's patience paid off in the 57th minute when Ignacio Ovando found the net, finishing off an assist from Gastón Ávila. Libertad were a fractious bunch throughout, with Gustavo Aguilar and Robert Rojas both booked in the first half among four yellow cards for the visitors.
The win puts Rosario Central firmly on top of Group H and in control of their knockout-stage destiny. For Libertad, now winless in four group games, the path to even a Copa Sudamericana lifeline is narrowing fast.
