Match Report

A frantic start at Estádio do Dragão produced a 1-1 draw as Nottingham Forest left Porto with a precious away point in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg, keeping the tie wide open. FC Porto took the lead in the 11th minute when Willian Gomes finished smartly after a low cross from Gabri Veiga. Two minutes later, the hosts gifted an equalizer — a back pass from Martim Fernandes left goalkeeper Diogo Costa stranded outside his area, the ball trickling in for a costly own goal. Forest thought they had snatched the lead in the 66th minute when substitute Igor Jesus finished, but VAR ruled the effort out. The draw arguably suits the visitors. Having already beaten Porto 2-0 during the league phase, Nottingham Forest head into the second leg at home knowing a draw would be enough to reach the semi-finals. Porto pushed hard but could not find a way through a composed Forest backline, leaving them needing a result in England.
