Federico Valverde produced a stunning first-half hat-trick as Real Madrid dismantled Manchester City 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg. The Uruguayan was simply unstoppable before the break, leaving Pep Guardiola's side shell-shocked. Valverde opened the scoring on 20 minutes, latching onto an incredible long-range pass from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to fire home. He doubled the lead just seven minutes later before completing his treble in the 42nd minute. Real Madrid could have had a fourth, but Vinicius Jr. blazed a second-half penalty over the bar. A deflated Manchester City offered little resistance after the interval, unable to break down a resolute Madrid backline. The result leaves Guardiola's men needing a miracle in the return leg at the Etihad on March 17.
