Match Report
Lamine Yamal rescued Barcelona with a stoppage-time penalty as the Spanish giants clawed back a 1-1 draw against Newcastle at a raucous St James' Park in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
Harvey Barnes looked to have won it for the Magpies when he fired home from close range in the 86th minute, latching onto a pinpoint cross from Jacob Murphy. Newcastle had earlier been denied when Joelinton found the net in the 74th minute, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside.
But just as the hosts thought they had held on, Barcelona won a penalty deep into added time. Yamal made no mistake from twelve yards in the 95th minute, silencing the Tyneside crowd and levelling the tie.
The result leaves everything to play for at Camp Nou. Newcastle, still chasing a first-ever Champions League quarter-final, will feel a golden opportunity slipped through their fingers.
