Mario Lemina rose highest in the seventh minute to head Galatasaray into a first-leg lead over Liverpool in their Champions League Round of 16 clash at a raucous Rams Park. Victor Osimhen nodded a corner back across goal and Lemina guided it past Giorgi Mamardashvili to send Istanbul into raptures.
Liverpool struggled to find any rhythm in a sluggish display. Osimhen thought he had doubled the hosts' advantage after the hour mark, but VAR chalked it off for offside. The Reds then had their own goal disallowed when a corner struck Ibrahima Konaté's arm on the line — handball, no goal.
The 1-0 defeat marks the second time Liverpool have lost by that scoreline at Galatasaray this season, and it came on Arne Slot's 100th game in charge. Everything is still to play for in the second leg at Anfield on March 18, but the Reds know they must be far sharper.
