Mexico vs Ghana
Match Report
Mexico made a statement on home soil, cruising to a 2-0 victory over Ghana at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla. The tone was set almost immediately when Brian Gutiérrez struck inside the opening two minutes, giving El Tri the perfect start.
Gutiérrez opened the scoring in the 2nd minute after winning possession high up the pitch and firing past goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who went on to make several crucial saves to limit the damage. Guillermo Martínez sealed it in the 54th minute with a clinical finish on the counter-attack. An Alexis Vega effort was ruled out for offside just before the break, while Ghana's Oscar Naasei picked up a yellow card in the 13th minute for a rough foul on Gilberto Mora.
The result gives Mexico a timely confidence boost as they prepare to host the World Cup. For Ghana, already stung by heavy defeats to Austria and Germany in recent weeks, there is serious work to do ahead of a demanding Group L campaign alongside England and Croatia.
