Peru vs Honduras

Peru were cruelly denied victory as Honduras snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw with virtually the last kick of the ball in their international friendly at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque in Madrid. Jairo Vélez looked set to be the hero after bagging a superb brace for Peru. He opened the scoring in the 6th minute before Luis Palma levelled for Honduras just before half-time (44'). Vélez then restored the lead with a well-placed header from a corner in the 58th minute, seemingly putting the game to bed. But Honduras had other ideas. Deep into stoppage time, Darlin Mencía struck in the 90'+4 minute to snatch an unlikely point and leave the Peruvians stunned. The result extends Mano Menezes' winless run as Peru head coach, a frustrating end to their European tour. Honduras, meanwhile, will take huge belief from a gutsy comeback ahead of the World Cup on home soil.
