Hungary vs Slovenia
Match Report
Hungary edged past Slovenia 1-0 in a hard-fought friendly at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on Saturday. Szabolcs Schön proved the difference, volleying home in the 79th minute after a cross and a deflected shot fell kindly to him inside the box.
Slovenia thought they had taken the lead early on when Daniel Šturm found the net in the 14th minute, but VAR intervened to rule the effort out for offside. It was a frustrating moment for the visitors, who had looked sharp on the counter throughout the first half.
The hosts dominated possession but struggled to break down a well-organised Slovenian defence for much of the contest. It took until the final quarter for Schön to unlock the door with a tidy finish that sparked relief around the stadium.
A useful run-out for Hungary ahead of their upcoming competitive fixtures, though Slovenia will take heart from a disciplined display that deserved more than a narrow defeat.
