Match Report
Austria secured a 1-0 victory over South Korea in a tight international friendly at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna on Tuesday evening. Marcel Sabitzer proved the difference, firing home just three minutes after the break to settle a cagey contest.
After a goalless first half where neither side could find a breakthrough, Sabitzer pounced in the 48th minute. Xaver Schlager threaded a neat pass to find the midfielder, who drilled a right-footed effort from the centre of the box into the bottom-left corner to give the hosts the lead.
The result caps off a strong week for Austria, who had thumped Ghana 5-1 just days earlier as they fine-tune their preparations ahead of this summer's World Cup. For South Korea, it is back-to-back friendly defeats following their 4-0 loss to Ivory Coast, leaving coach Hong Myung-bo with plenty to ponder before the tournament kicks off.
