Cyprus edged out Moldova 3-2 in a pulsating international friendly at the Neo GSP Stadium in Nicosia on Monday. Charalampos Charalampous stole the show with a first-half brace as the hosts raced into a commanding lead before the break.
Grigoris Kastanos set the tone early, firing Cyprus ahead in just the fourth minute with an assist from Loukas Loizou. Charalampous then took centre stage, adding goals in the 30th and 44th minutes to give the home side a 3-0 cushion at half-time.
Moldova showed fight in the second half, with Petru Popescu pulling one back on 55 minutes before a late second made the hosts sweat. Ultimately, though, the damage had been done before the break.
It was a positive outing for Cyprus as they avenged their 3-2 defeat to Moldova back in June 2024, while the visitors will take heart from their spirited second-half comeback.
