Match Report
Germany edged a thrilling seven-goal friendly in Basel, coming from behind twice to beat Switzerland 4-3 thanks to a stunning Florian Wirtz masterclass. The Liverpool star bagged a brace and two assists to steal the show at St. Jakob-Park.
Dan Ndoye opened the scoring on 17 minutes before Jonathan Tah headed in a Wirtz cross to level. Breel Embolo restored the Swiss lead on 41 minutes, but Serge Gnabry struck in first-half stoppage time to make it 2-2 at the break.
Wirtz put Germany ahead with a long-range effort in the 61st minute, and although Joel Monteiro equalised on 79 minutes, Wirtz sealed it five minutes from time to complete a brilliant individual display.
Both World Cup-bound sides showed plenty of attacking firepower ahead of the summer tournament, but it is Julian Nagelsmann's Germany who will carry the greater confidence from this entertaining pre-tournament hit-out in Basel.
