Match Report

Germany left it late but got the job done, beating Ghana 2-1 in Stuttgart thanks to a dramatic 88th-minute winner from Deniz Undav. The Stuttgart forward pounced on a slick team move — Leon Goretzka to Leroy Sané to Undav — to send the MHP Arena into raptures and extend the hosts' winning run to eight matches. Kai Havertz had opened the scoring from the penalty spot deep into first-half stoppage time (45'+3'), capping a dominant opening period in which Germany created chance after chance. But Ghana refused to roll over, and Fatawu Issahaku levelled in the 70th minute with a well-taken equaliser that silenced the home crowd. Just as the game looked destined for a draw, Undav struck two minutes from time to settle a contest that was far tighter than Julian Nagelsmann would have liked. The victory keeps Germany in fine form ahead of this summer's World Cup, though they will know sterner tests lie ahead. For Ghana, there were plenty of positives to take from a gutsy display in Stuttgart.
