Grêmio vs Flamengo
Match Report
Flamengo claimed all three points away at Grêmio on Sunday night, winning 1-0 in Porto Alegre to keep their title push firmly on track. A composed second-half strike from Jorge Carrascal was the difference in a physical, stop-start Brasileirão affair.
Gonzalo Plata rattled the crossbar as early as the 4th minute, but the deadlock held until the 67th, when Emerson Royal slipped the ball through to Carrascal, who finished cleanly from the center of the box. Grêmio had already lost Pedro Gabriel to injury in the 9th minute, and the hosts never quite recovered their shape. Three Flamengo players — Jorginho, Evertton Araújo, and Pedro — picked up yellow cards, with Cristian Pavón booked for the hosts. No red cards or penalties, just a visiting side that dominated possession at 68% and were rarely troubled.
Grêmio remain stuck in 15th place and in desperate need of a response. Flamengo, however, close to within four points of leaders Palmeiras, making the title race that little bit tighter.
