Vasco da Gama vs Palmeiras
Match Report
Vasco produced a sensational second-half comeback to beat league leaders Palmeiras 2-1 at São Januário on Thursday night, marking the perfect start to Renato Gaúcho's reign as coach. The victory ended a remarkable 14-year wait for a home win over the Verdão.
Flaco López had given Palmeiras the lead in the 40th minute with a brilliant solo effort, cutting inside and firing past the keeper. But the second half belonged entirely to the hosts.
Thiago Mendes levelled in the 62nd minute with a sharp finish after a slick one-two with David, before Cuiabano completed the turnaround in the 74th minute, driving into the box to score. Both men netted their first goals in a Vasco shirt.
The result lifts Vasco off the bottom of the Brasileirão table after five rounds, while Palmeiras risk losing top spot as the title race heats up.
