Match Report
André-Pierre Gignac proved once again why he is Tigres UANL's ultimate big-game player, striking deep into stoppage time to seal a 1-0 victory over Monterrey in a tense Clásico Regio at the Volcán.
The French veteran came off the bench in the 79th minute, replacing Rodrigo Aguirre, and needed just 12 minutes to make his mark. Gignac latched onto a swift counterattack in the 91st minute, finishing across goal to send the home crowd into delirium.
It had been a tight, cagey affair until then. Monterrey's Uroš Djurdjević had a close-range effort denied by veteran goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán, but clear-cut chances were scarce for both sides before Gignac's late intervention.
The result lifts Tigres to sixth place on 16 points, firmly in the Clausura 2026 playoff picture. Monterrey, meanwhile, slip to ninth and now sit outside the liguilla places heading into a crucial stretch of the season.
