Match Report
Atlético Tucumán ground out a much-needed 1-0 victory over Gimnasia La Plata at the Estadio Monumental José Fierro on matchday 12 of the Apertura. For a side deep in crisis, it was a breath of fresh air.
Paraguayan defender Clever Ferreira was the unlikely hero, rising to meet a corner delivered by Franco Nicola in the 9th minute. His header flew across the face of goal and nestled inside the far post, beating 19-year-old debutant keeper Máximo Cabrera, who was thrust into action after both of Gimnasia's senior goalkeepers picked up injuries.
Despite conceding just 34% of possession, Atlético Tucumán were the more dangerous side, registering 10 shots to Gimnasia's three. Julio Falcioni's men defended resolutely to see the game out.
The win lifts Atlético Tucumán off the bottom rungs of Zona B after a torrid run of just one win from their opening 11 matches. Gimnasia, meanwhile, slip further from the top-eight knockout places after a third defeat in four games.
