Match Report

Independiente Rivadavia snatched a dramatic 3-2 win at Gimnasia L.P. after defender Enzo Martínez turned from hero to villain with a cruel late own goal at the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo. Martínez had given the hosts a dream start, heading home a Nicolás Barros Schelotto corner inside two minutes. Fabrizio Sartori nodded the visitors level on 23 minutes, but Gimnasia hit back almost immediately when Marcelo Torres finished off a slick move started by Nacho Fernández in the 27th minute to make it 2-1. Independiente Rivadavia refused to fold. José Florentín showed brilliant close control inside the box to fire home an equaliser just before half-time (40'). With a draw looking certain, Martínez agonisingly turned a cross into his own net in the dying minutes to complete a stunning turnaround. The result lifts Independiente Rivadavia to the top of Zone B in the Apertura with 20 points, while Gimnasia are left to rue a match they twice led on home soil.
