Match Report
Vancouver Whitecaps pulled off a sensational comeback at BC Place, scoring twice in stoppage time to beat Portland Timbers 3-2 in a pulsating Cascadia derby. Sebastian Berhalter hammered home the winner in the 96th minute from the top of the box, sending the home crowd into delirium.
Edier Ocampo had given the Whitecaps an early lead in the 6th minute with his first goal of the season, but Portland hit back through Juan Mosquera (37') and David Da Costa in first-half stoppage time to turn the game on its head. The Timbers looked set to hold on for a road victory.
Then came the late drama. Thomas Muller converted a penalty in the 94th minute to make it 2-2, before Berhalter completed the turnaround just two minutes later, firing past goalkeeper James Pantemis.
Vancouver dominated possession at 61% and outshot Portland 22-9, making the comeback feel almost inevitable. A gut-wrenching defeat for the Timbers, and a massive three points for the Whitecaps in the Cascadia rivalry.
