Match Report
Chicago Fire needed just 17 seconds to settle this one. Philip Zinckernagel blasted home the fastest goal in club history to give the Fire a deserved 1-0 victory over Nashville SC at a windswept Soldier Field on Saturday night.
Jonathan Bamba whipped a cross to the far post after Maren Haile-Selassie pounced on a loose ball in the final third, and Zinckernagel was waiting to hammer it home. The assist from Anton Salétros to spark the move gave the Dane all the time he needed — which turned out to be almost none at all.
Nashville pushed hard for an equalizer but goalkeeper Chris Brady was immense, pulling off four saves including a superb stop to deny Hany Mukhtar's 74th-minute free kick. It was Brady's third clean sheet of the season.
The win lifts Chicago Fire to 3-2-1 with 10 points, while Nashville SC suffered their first defeat of the campaign, dropping to 4-1-1 on 13 points.
