Match Report

Portland Timbers showed remarkable grit to earn a 1-1 draw against LA Galaxy at Providence Park on Sunday, playing 70 minutes with ten men after defender Kamal Miller was sent off following a VAR review. Kristoffer Velde opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a sharp left-footed finish from 10 yards after slick combination play involving Antony and João Ortiz. But the match turned on its head when Miller's reckless stamp on João Klauss was upgraded to a straight red in the 19th minute. Klauss made Portland pay just 11 minutes later, firing home from close range after Gabriel Pec and Marco Reus combined — his fifth goal in five MLS appearances this season. Goalkeeper James Pantemis was superb with six saves as the shorthanded Timbers held firm through a backs-to-the-wall second half. The point snaps a three-match losing run for Portland (1-3-1, 4 pts), while the Galaxy (1-2-2, 5 pts) extend their wretched road winless streak to 20 matches dating back to October 2024.
