Match Report

Dejan Joveljic came back to haunt his former club as Sporting Kansas City earned a gritty 2-1 win at LA Galaxy to claim their first victory of the 2026 MLS season. The Serbian striker, who netted the MLS Cup-winning goal for the Galaxy in 2024, opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time at Dignity Health Sports Park. Joveljic struck just before the break (45'+2'), and Norwegian international Lasse Berg Johnsen doubled the lead in the 74th minute to put the visitors firmly in control. Marco Reus pulled one back for the Galaxy in the 82nd minute, but despite dominating possession with 61% of the ball, the hosts couldn't force an equalizer. The result is a huge boost for head coach Raphael Wicky, whose side had managed just one point from their opening three games. Sporting Kansas City now sit level on four points with the Galaxy, who have lost back-to-back MLS matches following a 4-1 defeat at Colorado last time out.
