Cape Verde vs Saudi Arabia

Cape Verde made history at NRG Stadium in Houston, holding Saudi Arabia to a goalless draw and advancing to the Round of 32 in their maiden World Cup. Goalkeeper Vozinha was the standout name once again, marshalling a disciplined defensive effort all the way to the final whistle. There were no goals, but the match was not without incident. Saudi Arabia collected three yellow cards — Saud Abdulhamid in the 4th minute, Nasser Al-Dawsari in the 24th, and Mohamed Kanno in the 48th — as frustration mounted. The closest either side came to breaking the deadlock was in the 28th minute, when Laros Duarte's effort drew a sharp parry from Saudi goalkeeper Al-Owais. Saudi Arabia, who needed a win to survive, are eliminated. For Cape Verde, the draw caps a sensational group stage — three matches, no defeats — and sets up a mouthwatering Round of 32 clash against defending champions Argentina.
