Match Report

Fatih Karagümrük edged out Gençlerbirliği 1-0 in a tense Süper Lig relegation clash at the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadium, with goalkeeper Ivo Grbic's stunning first-half penalty save proving every bit as vital as the goal that won it. Tiago Çukur broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, nodding home after Berkay Özcan's free kick was flicked on by Igor Lichnovsky in the area. Gençlerbirliği responded well and were awarded a penalty in first-half stoppage time after Lichnovsky — who was booked for the challenge — fouled Traore in the box. But Grbic kept out Metehan Mimaroğlu's spot-kick with his feet, sending the sides into the break with the scoreline intact. Karagümrük held firm through second-half pressure to climb to 24 points with two games to play, keeping their survival hopes very much alive. Gençlerbirliği stayed on 28 points and slipped to 16th — they head into the final stretch with their own relegation worries far from over.
