Match Report

Samsunspor delivered a stunning 4-1 result against Galatasaray on May 2, ruining the Lions' title party in Samsun. Galatasaray had arrived needing a win to clinch a record-equalling fourth consecutive Super Lig crown. Yunus Akgün opened the scoring in the 9th minute, set up by Victor Osimhen, but Marius Mouandilmadji quickly levelled for the hosts in the 22nd. After the break, Cherif Ndiaye put Samsunspor ahead in the 57th. The match turned decisively in the 63rd when goalkeeper Günay Güvenç was sent off for a reckless foul on Mouandilmadji. Down to ten men, Galatasaray fell apart — Mouandilmadji added a third in the 71st (confirmed by VAR) and Ndiaye sealed the rout with his second in the 82nd. Galatasaray remain top on 74 points, still four clear of Fenerbahçe with three games remaining. The title is still within their grasp, but this defeat will sting. Samsunspor, now on 48 points, produced one of the results of the season.
