Match Report
Benfica cruised to a 3-0 win over Vitoria Guimaraes at the Estadio da Luz, with Colombian midfielder Richard Rios pulling the strings in a dominant display. The result keeps Jose Mourinho's side firmly in the title race.
Gianluca Prestianni opened the scoring on 14 minutes after Rios drove forward from midfield and played a perfectly weighted diagonal pass. Vangelis Pavlidis doubled the lead on 55 minutes, finishing clinically after another incisive Rios assist following a high press that won back possession. The third came in the 75th minute when Vitoria defender Beni Mukendi turned a cross into his own net.
Rios was the undisputed man of the match, registering two assists and controlling the tempo throughout.
The win lifts Benfica to 65 points, drawing level with Sporting in the battle for second behind leaders Porto on 69. For Vitoria Guimaraes, it was a tough afternoon that offers little comfort in their mid-table campaign.
