Real Madrid came from behind to edge Atletico Madrid 3-2 in a breathless derby at the Bernabeu. Vinicius Jr was the star, scoring twice — including a superb solo winner in the 71st minute.
Ademola Lookman gave Atletico the lead on 32 minutes with a clinical finish off a slick counterattack. Real Madrid responded after the break — Vinicius Jr converted a penalty on 51 minutes before Federico Valverde made it 2-1 four minutes later. Nahuel Molina levelled with a thunderous long-range strike on 66 minutes, but Vinicius restored the lead with his brilliant solo effort.
The drama wasn't done. Valverde saw red in the 76th minute for a reckless challenge on Alex Baena, and Julian Alvarez rattled the post as Atletico pushed for a late equaliser.
The result keeps Real Madrid four points off La Liga leaders Barcelona, while Atletico will be left wondering what might have been.
