Villarreal ended the 2025-26 La Liga season on the highest of notes, handing Atlético de Madrid a 5–1 thrashing at the Estadio de la Cerámica to claim third place. The win also served as an emotional farewell for veteran midfielder Dani Parejo and full-back Alfonso Pedraza. Parejo got the party started from the penalty spot in the 30th minute, with Ayoze Pérez adding a second just four minutes later. Georges Mikautadze made it three on 40 before Marc Pubill headed in an Antoine Griezmann-assisted consolation for Atlético on 43. Pape Gueye restored the cushion right before half-time, and Ayoze sealed his brace on 54 to complete a dominant rout. Third place is a fine reward for Villarreal and their manager Marcelino García Toral, whose side never looked back once Parejo converted that opener.
