Match Report

Marseille returned to winning ways at the Vélodrome on Friday, dispatching Metz 3-1 in a controlled Ligue 1 display. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got the hosts off to a perfect start, arrowing a superb finish into the top corner after 13 minutes following a misplaced Metz pass. The second half sparked to life immediately. Igor Paixão extended the lead with an elegant chip just after the break (48'), before Giorgi Tsitaishvili gave Metz hope with a swift reply (49'). Goalkeeper Pape Sy had been busy all evening with several fine saves, and a Metz effort struck the woodwork in the first half. An Aubameyang strike was also ruled out for offside in the 32nd minute. Hamari Traoré wrapped things up deep in added time (90+3') to seal the result. The win sends Marseille provisionally into third place, reigniting their top-three push. For Metz, still fighting to survive the drop, this defeat is another painful blow in a desperately difficult season.
