Match Report

Bayer Leverkusen pulled off a significant upset at Signal Iduna Park, becoming only the second team after Bayern Munich to beat Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season. Robert Andrich's clinical long-range finish proved the difference in a tightly fought afternoon in Dortmund. Andrich broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute with a thunderous 23-meter effort that flew into the bottom-left corner at 120 km/h, leaving goalkeeper Gregor Kobel with absolutely no chance. Dortmund dominated possession at 53% but mustered just one shot on target all match. Serhou Guirassy—who was booked just before the interval—summed up the hosts' evening by rattling the crossbar in the 83rd minute with Leverkusen's lead still intact. The result lifts Leverkusen to fifth in the Bundesliga table and keeps their Champions League qualification bid very much alive. For Dortmund, it is only their third league loss of the season, but the timing hands Bayern Munich the opportunity to stretch their lead at the top to nine points.
