Match Report

Hamburger SV and FC Köln played out a 1-1 draw at the Volksparkstadion in a tense Bundesliga affair on Saturday. Fábio Vieira's delightful chip had the hosts dreaming of all three points, but Saïd El Mala had other ideas, levelling just before the break. Vieira broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with a classy finish after being teed up by William Mikelbrencis, lifting the ball beyond the Köln goalkeeper. The lead lasted barely six minutes, though, as El Mala pounced on a pass from Rav van den Berg to restore parity right on the stroke of halftime. The second half produced few clear-cut chances as both sides cancelled each other out. The draw extends Köln's winless run to six matches, leaving them marooned in 13th, while Hamburg stay 10th and will rue letting a lead slip in a game they had under control.
