Match Report

Lille climbed to fifth in Ligue 1 with a clinical 2-1 win at Roazhon Park, ending Rennes' four-match winning streak. Matias Fernandez-Pardo set the tone with a goal inside two minutes and was the standout performer on the night. Fernandez-Pardo opened the scoring in the 2nd minute from a Nathan Ngoy assist, then turned provider for Hákon Haraldsson to make it 2-0 shortly after half-time. Esteban Lepaul pulled one back on 59 minutes, but Lille held firm despite late pressure. Rennes dominated possession at 58% and had more than double the shots, yet couldn't break down a disciplined Lille defence. Seven yellow cards across both teams told the story of a tetchy second half. The result lifts Lille one point above Rennes into fifth on 44 points, just three behind fourth-placed Lyon. The race for European football remains wide open.
