Match Report
Club Brugge ground out a vital 2-1 win at Westerlo, though an injury to captain Hans Vanaken took the shine off Saturday's result. Christos Tzolis opened the scoring in the sixth minute, latching onto a Carlos Forbs pass and finishing coolly past the keeper.
Nicolò Tresoldi doubled the advantage on 35 minutes, converting a Kyriani Sabbe cross to send Club Brugge into the break with a comfortable cushion. Seiji Kimura headed home from a corner on 64 minutes to pull one back and set up a nervy final stretch.
The main worry for the visitors was Vanaken, who picked up a knock just before half-time and failed to reappear after the interval. Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet preserved the lead with a crucial late save.
The win takes Club Brugge to 60 points, keeping them in the title hunt alongside Union SG. For Westerlo, stuck on 38 points in ninth, the Champions' Play-offs dream is all but over.
