Match Report
A hard-fought stalemate at the Stadium of Light saw Sunderland and Manchester United cancel each other out on Matchday 36. The closest either side came to a winner was Lutsharel Geertruida's 71st-minute strike that cannoned off the post — a cruel moment that summed up the hosts' afternoon.
There were no goals to report, though Mason Mount picked up a yellow card in the 50th minute for a midfield foul. Sunderland had the better of the opening exchanges, with Chemsdine Talbi curling wide early on and Noah Sadiki denied by Senne Lammens. Manchester United barely threatened until stoppage time, when Matheus Cunha finally forced a save from Robin Roefs in the 93rd minute.
The point does little to ease nerves for Sunderland, who remain in 12th and still need results to feel comfortable. Manchester United, already secured a Champions League spot under interim boss Michael Carrick, will take the draw without too much complaint.
