Borussia Mönchengladbach suffered another chaotic defeat, falling 3-4 to Mainz at Borussia-Park in a game that swung back and forth from start to finish. It was interim boss Jan-Moritz Lichte's first match in charge following Eugen Polanski's exit, and his reshuffled side simply couldn't hold on despite twice fighting back into the contest. The result leaves Gladbach as the only team in the Bundesliga still without a point after four rounds, deepening the crisis that cost Polanski his job, with captain Tim Kleindienst suspended and a new permanent coach reportedly close to being named. Mainz, meanwhile, climbed to seven points under Urs Fischer and continue to look like one of the league's early surprise packages.
