Match Report

Richards Bay came within 13 minutes of a statement win over Kaizer Chiefs, but a stoppage-heavy second half saw the visitors claw back a 2-2 draw. Chiefs dominated the ball for long spells, yet it was the hosts who landed the early blows before the Amakhosi fought their way level. Nqaba Xulu put Richards Bay ahead in the 8th minute and struck again in the 39th, assisted by Moses Mthembu, to send the hosts in 2-1 up at the break after Lebohang Maboe had pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 19th minute. Chiefs kept pushing after the restart and were rewarded in the 77th minute when Siphesihle Ndlovu, teed up by substitute Asanele Velebayi, drilled home the equalizer. Chiefs finished with the lion's share of possession and shots, but couldn't find a winner. For Richards Bay, sitting near the bottom of the table, the point offers little relief after a stuttering start to the campaign, even with Xulu's brace catching the eye. Kaizer Chiefs, meanwhile, remain among the early pacesetters but will be frustrated at squandering a lead they were expected to control from the outset.
