Match Report

Uganda made a statement in Johannesburg, beating D.R. Congo 2-0 in a friendly at FNB Stadium. The standout moment came early, with the Cranes catching the Leopards cold inside the opening minutes and never really letting go of control from there, despite Congo enjoying plenty of the ball. Bogere opened the scoring in the 7th minute, pouncing on Uganda's first real chance after a swift counterattack exposed a disorganized Congolese defence. The game stayed scrappy after that, with Congo dominating possession but lacking the final-third accuracy to respond before half-time. Uganda doubled their advantage in the 49th minute when Kelvin Boateng finished off a slick move started by Abdoulaye Sissako, netting his first goal in Cranes colours. Frank Ssebuufu nearly added a third but crashed a shot off the crossbar. For Uganda, coach Paul Put used the trip to rotate fringe players away from recent World Cup qualifying duty, and the clinical display will boost competition for places. For D.R. Congo, it was a frustrating evening that exposed defensive lapses their coaching staff will need to address before more meaningful fixtures ahead.
