Match Report

RB Leipzig secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach at Red Bull Arena on Matchday 29, with a late goal the difference in a tense, closely contested affair watched by around 40,000 fans. Leipzig dominated possession and carved out chances throughout, but were kept at bay for long stretches by an outstanding Moritz Nicolas in goal, who finished the game with a remarkable 11 saves. The deadlock was finally broken in the 81st minute when Yan Diomande converted a perfectly weighted through ball from Christoph Baumgartner. Gladbach came agonisingly close to a leveller when Fabio Chiarodia rattled the crossbar in the closing stages. The three points push Leipzig to 56 and keep their Champions League bid very much alive in third place. For Gladbach, sitting 13th on 30 points, the fight for Bundesliga safety rolls on with little margin for error.
