Match Report
RB Leipzig sealed their return to Champions League football with a 2-1 home win over FC St. Pauli on Matchday 33 — a result that mattered far more to the visitors, still desperately fighting to stay in the Bundesliga.
Xaver Schlager put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half-time, converting a Christoph Baumgartner lay-off. Willi Orbán then headed home a David Raum corner nine minutes after the break to double the advantage.
St. Pauli were not without threat — Martijn Kaars rattled the crossbar before the interval — and substitute Abdoulie Ceesay pulled one back in the 86th minute after a smart flick from Jackson Irvine. Irvine went close again deep in stoppage time, but Leipzig held firm.
The win locks in a top-four finish for Leipzig after a year without European football at the highest level. For St. Pauli, rooted in 17th, the defeat leaves them in dire need of points if they are to escape automatic relegation.
