Progreso vs Nacional
Match Report
Nacional did just enough to get past Progreso at Parque Saroldi, grinding out a 1-0 win in a match that offered little in the way of quality football but plenty riding on the outcome for the visitors' Group 5 campaign.
The only goal came in the 31st minute, when Tiziano Correa converted from the penalty spot after Tomás Verón Lupi was brought down as he burst into the box. It proved the difference in a scrappy, low-tempo contest, with Nacional controlling territory and possession behind a strong midfield showing from Agustín Dos Santos and Luciano González. Adding a personal subplot, Dos Santos lined up against his own father, Jonathan Dos Santos, who started for Progreso.
Going in as group leaders on four points, Nacional only needed a draw but got the win instead, sealing top spot and progression to the next round with a heavily rotated squad under coach Daniel Carreño. For Progreso, who made changes at the break in search of a spark, the Copa Uruguay campaign ends here as they fall short in the group stage.
