Match Report

Platense made it count at home, beating Independiente Santa Fe 2-1 in a tight Copa Libertadores Group E contest at the Estadio Ciudad de Vicente López on April 29. The Argentine side took control in the second half with two quick goals that left the Colombian visitors with too much to do. Tomás Nasif broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, and Mateo Mendía doubled the advantage just six minutes later to put the game firmly in Platense's hands. Aerial play proved to be the key weapon for the hosts throughout the match. Franco Fagúndez pulled one back for Santa Fe from a rebound in the box deep in stoppage time (90+4'), but a consolation was all it amounted to. Daniel Torres picked up a yellow card late in the game as frustrations boiled over for the visitors. The result leaves Santa Fe stranded at the bottom of Group E with just one point from three games — a steep hill to climb in the remainder of the campaign. Platense, meanwhile, move up to second place with six points and are firmly in contention for a knockout-stage berth.
