NEC held firm early, but a clinical Bodø/Glimt side took control before the break and never let go, winning the first leg 3-1. The Norwegians were sharp on the counter, leaving NEC with a mountain to climb in next week's return leg.
Sondre Fet opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and Helmersen doubled the lead just before half-time. Three minutes after the restart, Aleesami made it 3-0, all but settling the tie. Earlier, VAR overturned a potential NEC penalty after replays showed a Glimt defender also handled the ball. Keeper Crettaz denied Helmersen with a fine save in the 17th, and Bischoff pulled one back for the hosts in the 85th, giving the crowd something to applaud.
For Bodø/Glimt, it is a big step toward another group-stage campaign after last season's run to the last 16. For NEC, coach Dick Schreuder admitted his side has ground to cover, needing something special in Norway to keep their European dream alive.
