Mirassol vs Botafogo

Mirassol made home advantage count at Estádio José Maria de Campos Maia, brushing aside Botafogo thanks to a two-goal show from Eduardo. Despite the lopsided scoreline, the game was surprisingly even on the ball, with possession split 50-50, Mirassol simply made their chances count. Eduardo opened the scoring in the 16th minute, pouncing on a rebound after goalkeeper Gabriel Batista parried a header from Igor Formiga. He struck again right at the start of the second half, in the 47th minute, turning home a low cross from Edson Carioca on the right. Huguinho picked up a yellow card for Botafogo in the 34th minute, and the visitors reshuffled heavily at the break, sending on three fresh faces in search of a way back that never materialized. The result gives Mirassol a big lift at home and shows they can match a big name like Botafogo blow for blow in midfield while being clinical in front of goal. For Botafogo, it's a frustrating afternoon to digest, undone by two moments of sharp finishing despite controlling their fair share of the ball.
