Mexico vs Serbia
Match Report
Mexico closed out their pre-World Cup preparations emphatically, routing Serbia 5-1 at the Estadio Nemesio Díez in Toluca. Luis Chávez's thunderous left-footed strike from outside the area in the 89th minute was the crowning moment of a commanding El Tri display.
Serbia made a statement of intent when Petar Stanić finished clinically in the 19th minute, but the lead lasted barely a quarter of an hour. Johan Vásquez — in fine international form — headed home a Brian Gutiérrez corner in the 34th, and a Stefan Bukinac own goal just before the break turned the tide. Raúl Jiménez extended the advantage with a composed 56th-minute finish, before an Adem Avdić own goal made it four and settled the contest.
The result sends Mexico into their World Cup opener on June 11 unbeaten in all eight matches played in 2026. For Serbia, two costly own goals and some shaky defending will be immediate concerns heading into the tournament.
