Match Report

After nine matches without a win, Lyon ended the drought with a deserved 2-0 defeat of Lorient at the Groupama Stadium. The real story was the halftime intervention: manager Paulo Fonseca threw on Endrick — a player he had publicly benched and criticised beforehand — and it changed everything. Endrick's instant impact was electric. His cross from the right on 49 minutes was headed in by Roman Yaremchuk for his first Ligue 1 goal, and just seven minutes later Corentin Tolisso finished at the far post after Endrick's effort was deflected by goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo. A 66th-minute VAR check for a foul on Bamba Dieng came to nothing, keeping Lyon comfortable. Goalkeeper Dominik Greif — named Man of the Match — kept Lorient at bay with a vital first-half save from Bamba Dieng. The three points lift Lyon to fifth, one point behind Marseille in the European race. For Lorient, a third straight defeat stalls an otherwise solid return to the top flight.
