Lommel vs Gent

Lommel SK beat Gent 2-0 at the Soevereinstadion on Sunday, scoring both goals in the last nine minutes of a game the visitors had mostly controlled. It was Gent's first league defeat of the season, ending a run of eight wins and a draw. Gent hit the woodwork early and were the better side before the break, but Matthias Pieklak in the Lommel goal made a string of saves to keep it level. The first half also brought a VAR review. Mathias Delorge was sent off for a challenge on Tom Reyners, only for the decision to be downgraded to a yellow card, so Gent stayed at eleven. The finishing was poor on both sides until the 82nd minute. Tibe De Vlieger lost the ball and Juho Talvitie scored, with Djordje Gordic providing the assist. Five minutes later Gordic added the second after another Gent turnover. Davy Roef said afterwards that his team had not been sharp enough in front of goal. Gent drop to third on 25 points, behind Club Brugge (27) and Union (26). Lommel collected their fourth win of the season and sit eighth, with a first clean sheet against Gent this campaign.
