Inter opened their Serie A season with a statement 4-1 win over Monza at San Siro, before pulling clear in the second half after a level opening 45 minutes. Hakan Calhanoglu set the tone in just the 6th minute with a thumping strike from outside the box, but Monza refused to fold.
Gustavo Varela leveled for the visitors in the 29th minute, finishing off a slick move to make it 1-1 at the break. Inter came out sharper after the interval: Piotr Zieliński restored the lead in the 48th minute, and Francesco Pio Esposito doubled the advantage ten minutes later with an audacious back-heel finish. Yann Bisseck completed the rout in the 63rd minute, turning in Esposito's pass. There were no red cards or penalties, though Manuel Akanji nearly added a fifth when his header cannoned off the crossbar.
The win keeps Inter's title credentials intact under Christian Chivu, while Monza face a long season fighting for safety.
