Gent vs RSC Anderlecht

A breathless first half at the Planet Group Arena ended in controversy as KAA Gent and RSC Anderlecht shared a 1-1 draw in the Championship play-offs. Mihajlo Cvetkovic's red card in first-half stoppage time handed Gent a numerical advantage they ultimately could not turn into a winner. Anderlecht had threatened from the off, taking the lead through a Leonardo Lopes own goal on 10 minutes. Gent hit back just before halftime: Hyllarion Goore drove to the byline and squared for Jean-Kévin Duverne to tap home in the 43rd minute. Seconds later, Cvetkovic was dismissed for lashing out at Siebe van der Heyden. Ten-man Anderlecht defended grimly in the second half, with goalkeeper Coosemans drawing criticism for blatant time-wasting as Gent failed to carve out clear chances. Anderlecht stay fourth, two points above fifth-placed Gent, and can now shift their focus to Thursday's cup final. The Buffalo's, still winless in the play-offs, desperately need three points next time out.
