KRC Genk vs Westerlo
Match Report
Genk delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Westerlo in the Conference League play-offs, with Japanese winger Junya Ito pulling the strings all afternoon. A goalless first half gave little hint of what was to come.
The floodgates opened after the break. Aaron Bibout headed home an Ito cross on 64 minutes to break the deadlock, and Robin Mirisola doubled the advantage five minutes later, finishing off a move started by Noah Adedeji-Sternberg. Ito then capped a man-of-the-match display with a curled finish into the far corner in the 84th minute.
The game wasn't without concern for Genk — Konstantinos Karetsas was forced off with a twisted knee as early as the 33rd minute, and Daan Heymans followed at half-time with a suspected hamstring problem.
The three points keep Genk's Conference League ambitions firmly alive, while Westerlo face an uphill battle to secure European football next season.
